It’s on! The first grapes rolled through the crusher and into the press on Friday, August 28th. Winemaker Mark Foster is checking out the crop, tasting the berries and checking the sugar levels. This is just the first of what will be many bins to come.
If these Sauvignon Blanc grapes are any indication, then we should be in for a good harvest. These grapes from the south county and typically ripen sooner than some of the higher elevation vineyards in the county.
Mark’s assistant, Bill Jennings demonstrates one of the required skills of crush, being in two places at once. Here he is operating both the crusher and the press at the same time, running back and forth to cover both ends.
